Daughter
Sharon Marley 275
Ever since she can remember, music has been a part of her soul, "music speaks to me the way nothing else does. It gets me ready for action or it calms me down for rest time. There was always different kinds of music in Mom's vinyl album collection and we were exposed to gospel, blues, country, reggae, jazz, african, you name it we listened to it".

Born November 23, 1964, in the sunny island of Jamaica, Sharon is the big sister of the family and the eldest of the Melody Makers, "I was one year old when Bob and my mom got married, I was at the wedding, at the very beginning of this dynasty. I proudly tell everyone and show the pictures". She has spent over 25 years touring across the world with Ziggy Marley & the Melody Makers spreading positive vibrations, while raising 4 children of her own, Donisha, Ingemar, Matthew and Peter-Shane.

"My joining the Melody Makers came as a surprise to me, I was very shy and the first time I actually went on stage with them I cried like a baby! These were to be the best and most hardest working years of my life". Along with her brothers and sisters, Sharon has garnered four grammy awards, NAACP awards, platinum and gold records, and was even named United Nations Youth Ambassadors for Peace in 1992.

Sharon is very much a Melody Maker. As part of her musical creativity she has helped with producing young talents in Jamaica as well as co/directed some early ZMMM videos including "Headtop", "Hand to Mouth", "Small People" and "Rebel in Disguise".

"My love for music spreads throughout my lifestyle. I speak to my children with quotes from different songs and I think they relate better to what I'm saying, rather than me just lecturing them".

She has used her management skills to act as curator for the Bob Marley Museum when it first opened in 1986. "Being at the museum at that time was a very moving responsibility for me, I had to learn to suppress my tears when people asked different questions about Bob and what we did there as children. I think I'm a stronger person from that experience".

Sharon also assisted with the founding and operation of the ZMMM fan club and the Ghetto Youths United Label which was then being operated out of the family's Marcus Garvey Drive studio complex.

Now a certified early childhood specialist, these days Sharon spends her time caring for and educating the children of Jamaica through her Montessori-based training/daycare center, as well as assisting brother Ziggy with his U.R.G.E. school adoption program.

"Being the eldest, I had to take care of my brothers and sisters so naturally, I love working with children. I have always been an advocate for the appropriate care of voiceless children all over the world. This is how I see myself carrying on my family's legacy."
