That's the lasting lyric that sums up the infectiousness of Bob Marley's classic reggae anthem "Lively Up Yourself," which opened his 1974 album Natty Dread and still rings true for millions of Marley fans worldwide.
The song grew into one of Marley's most uplifting live staples, and it is for that reason that it was chosen as the third installment in the Concert Series at BobMarley.com.
This impeccable video presentation of the song was taken from Marley's legendary Rainbow Theatre performance with the Wailers in London on June 2, 1977, and highlights the up-tempo nature of the number and the inspiring fretwork of lead guitarist Junior Marvin.
Marvin takes the stage first and noodles away as bassist Familyman lays down the heavy groove in a surprisingly fast version of the song, which Marley wrote and sang to motivate anyone to rise up and pull themselves out of any self-imposed funks they might be in.
"Lively up yourself and don't be no drag," Marley sings. "Lively up yourself, 'cause this is the other bag."
"Hey, you rock so, you rock so, like you never did before," Marley continues. "You dip so, you dip so, and you can dip through my door/You come so, you come so, oh yeah, like I do adore you/You skank so, you skank so, and-a I can assure you."
This particular video of the song, with brilliant color and sound, ends with the band rocking out the chorus and Marley, almost possessed with the rhythm of the music and the energy of the crowd, putting everything he had into those indelible final lines.
"Can you dig it? Can you dig it?"
It's a timeless piece of music history, so sit down, play the video, and lively up yourselves.
