This year, Ziggy Marley added a few up-and-coming young artists to the distinguished list of musicians he's recorded with. In fact, about 200 of them. Ziggy visited Belvedere Middle School in Los Angeles last spring as part of the Little Kids Rock program, an organization that gives free instruments to kids helps bring music education to public schools across the country.

He spent about an hour and a half with the students, performing some of his own favorites as well as other classic tunes the kids already knew, like Hendrix's Purple Haze."

"I believe music is an integral part of society to develop free thinking...and awareness," Ziggy says in a video recording of his visit posted on the organization's website, Little Kids Rock .

"For me, music is about opening up consciousness, opening a part of our brains that needs to be open. Music brings people together. Music teaches unity. Music is an important tool for emotional development, and spiritual development.

"Children are our future and that is true and if we want to change anything in this world, we have to start with kids...We have to teach them the good things and give them tools to become good people. Music is one of those things."
